You know how to make beautiful, elegant, personalized jewelry items by hand-stamping them. You give them away as gifts to friends and family, and even keep some for yourself. But now you would like to start selling your handmade wares, but don’t know where to start?
Try a local boutique shop. Shop owners are always looking for new and unusual items to carry, they might even ask you to create something special just for their shop. Offer a variety of sizes, shapes and personal messages to appeal to their shoppers. Look into a display stand with pegs or some other way to hang the jewelry. Many jewelry suppliers have multiple display stand styles available. Get some attractive display cards printed up so you can attach the jewelry and prominatly display on the stand.
Throw a home party. Invite your friends, co-workers, and family members over for a night of fun and shopping. Have plenty of drinks and snacks available for your guests, and arrange the seating to promote conversation. Display lots of samples for guests to try on and have a few mirrors handy so they can see how it looks. Offer a special discount price for orders over a certain amount. And send them away with a thank-you goodie bag filled with surprises, and of course hand out your business card to everyone who attends and give a few extra for them to hand out as well.
Many towns and cities have craft shows or fashion shows where designers can sell their items to the public. Inquire about which shows are available in your area. It’s best to start off with a non-juried show so you are not expected to have an expensive display area and professional lighting. Be sure to have plenty of stock on hand, and if a customer desires a personalized piece, be sure to take their order and mail their item out to them on a timely basis. Also be sure to display your business card at your stand so customers can contact you later.
