Setting Goals For The New Year

With 2010 just around the corner, consider setting some goals for the new year. If you’ve been struggling with debt, set a goal to get it under control. Sit down and figure out your weekly and monthly budget. Is there any money you could take from your Entertainment or Fun part of your budget to put toward bringing down the balance of those debts? Start with your smaller balances. Besides paying the minimum payment you normally would, add that extra money to your monthly payment. If you stay consistent, you’ll find yourself debt free, which can be a very relieving feeling.

If you feel you are overweight and could afford to lose a few pounds, consider setting a monthly goal to losing weight as one of your goals for the new year. Start by making some changes to your diet. If you can find just a couple of healthy alternatives to what you normally eat, you will start to see large improvements to your health. Combined with exercise just 3 days a week, the pounds will be coming off in no time. Remember to set attainable and realistic goals. You don’t want to lose an unhealthy amount of weight in a small amount of time. No more than 2 pounds a week is what you should be striving for.

Now is as good a time as any to quit smoking, drinking, or any other sort of addiction you might have. If you don’t think you can do it cold turkey, try coming up with a way you can scale down your usage until you have completely quit. It’s going to be hard, but anything that comes with rewards usually is. When you set your goal, also have a reward that you will give yourself when you achieve it. This can act as your motivation to quit. Use this new year as the beginning of a new you. Use it as a launching point for the person you really want to be.
