Sexual Health Deteriorates For Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer survivors are more susceptible to sexual health problems, as stated by a research agency. A survey was conducted among 1,000 women, who were under treatment for breast cancer, and most of them, about seventy percent are found to deal with increased sex problems.

The study was published in Journal of Sexual Medicine. A test was conducted in Australia on 1,684 women within 1 year of their breast cancer diagnosis. Questionnaires were given to them, and asked to finish it annually for five years. The questionnaire was based on treatment, details of sexual partner, sexual infection, menopausal symptoms and much more.

These test barred women with potentially active disease and those aged more then 70 years. It also excluded widow and women without sexual partner. As the report specifies, eighty percent of the women claimed that, they enjoyed healthy sexual life before having breast cancer. After breast cancer they are facing increased sexual problems. Menopausal symptoms, like night sweats and hot flashes occurred in most of them.

The report also stressed on fact that cancer treatments and related medications may also lead to sexual health problems. Patients need to undergo proper sexual health treatment, if they face problems like this. Physicians have devised various ways to curb the problem. For example women could use lubricant or moisturizer in vagina while having sexual intercourse and this may reduce the pain.
