Computer Scientists and engineers have designed "enablers" to which facilitate online shopping, online secure payment gateway and shopping cart software to conduct e-commerce. Almost all online store software have shopping cart software as part of it which act as the backbone for shopping portals.
An online shopping cart keeps details about the various items selected by an online buyer for purchase and provides facilities like total billing amount. It works similarly to the various billing softwares used by supermarkets. It allows us to see and manage the various items we have chosen to buy online.
online shopping cart icon is shown at the bottom of each product image, generally below the marked price in the web page. The shopper goes through the product listings and product descriptions in the online shopping portal and if he decides to purchase a particular item on sale, he/she will mark that item and drag or select that item using the online shopping cart icon.
The shopping cart panel contains a wealth of information. This information includes the item, the product code, the price including any discount, shipping cost, and possible other information. By selecting more items from the product list, the customer can add the new items to the shopping cart in addition to already selected items.
The application may looks simple and easy to build. But developing such software demands high technical expertise in various areas such as real time database management, accounts and billing, secure payment gateway etc. It is also important that the team which develops this software does a thorough analysis of the expected customer profile and uses this knowledge to develop "usability" in the software.
Shopping cart software utilizes the concept of cookies in Hypertext Markup Languages (HTML) or else is enabled using query strings. There are two types of shopping cart software available in the market today. The first kind requires a one time payment and unlimited usage upon purchase.
