Short Url – Easy To Remember

A URL shortening service will transform your long, clumsy and unwieldy URL into a shorter, smarter and professional looking one. Everyone will like posting the short URLs on their website. But before you do so, you should know the disadvantages of using short URLs that have been provided to you by professional agencies.

The first and foremost disadvantage is delay in loading of the page to which the link directs. This is because the short link takes the visitor first to the server of the organization who created the short URL and then redirects to your page. As a result more time is taken in loading the page. Instead of going to your page directly, the web browser first needs to get a redirection from the link shortening service.

Secondly if the server of the link shortening service is slow, then it will slow down the access to your webpage too. It is really disheartening if you have put up your page on a on a lightning-fast web server. And if the server is completely down, then it’s a bad day for you. The visitor will not get an access to the page at all.

Again there is no surety that the short URL will be properly redirected to your page. There can be disruptions due to many causes. Firstly the link shortening company may go out of business, thus snapping the link forever. They can also infuse an advertisement between your click and the page you want. If worst come to worst, the link can take visitors to some other page, such as spam or porn. The renowned providers will not do this to tarnish their business credibility, but you never know resorting to unethical practices is not uncommon.

Moreover, if you are displaying a short URL, you are unable to give credit to the website you’re linking to. Subscribing to the link shortening services also makes it difficult for you to maintain your website. It may happen so that a website where your links go is transformed in a porn site due to change of ownership. You will then need to remove such links. But it will not be easy to find them. If you had not subscribed to link shortening service then you could have found the bad links with the help of a text editor to search through the HTML code. A “link:” operator at a search engine could also have helped to do so. Due to using the service of a link shortener you have to find the bad links manually.

Again, is really a long URL a problem? Smaller URLS look good due to their neatness. But very few people type web addresses on the browser. Most of them copy and paste the URLS on the browser; so long links don’t really make a difference. They also search Google, or they click on a bookmark or a link from another website to access the specific webpage.

However, style and look is important and therefore tiny URLS too. So make sure your website has such URLs naturally and do not need a shortening service.
