Should Campers Shun Gadgets?
It's an interesting question and may well be something that you have pondered. Is there a danger that using too many camping accessories could actually erode the overall experience? Striking a balance is important, but it can be difficult to know where to draw the line. We all might begin with the intention of having a basic experience, but an enjoyable one too. The idea might be to pitch our tent and to cook simple food over an open fire. This sounds ideal, but we can quickly become tempted by other ideas. Many of us still like some creature comforts. While we may not expect accommodation levels to be as high as we'd find in a top hotel, we do like to make things a little easier. It's natural that we should want to do so - things can become difficult otherwise, especially if weather conditions aren't too good. So if you're travelling with children, you're worried about bathroom facilities, or you're concerned about the impact of the weather then it would actually seem to be silly not to make use of some gadgets and accessories. There's surely not any harm in doing so - it's just a matter of using what you need to. Clearly it is possible to become carried away and this can be dangerous. Many would suggest that you don't really want to end up in a situation where you are simply replicating what you would find in a hotel. Otherwise, are you really making the most of the whole camping experience? Have a think about the likely problems that you might face and whether there are solutions available. If you can find cheap, compact camping kit that you will actually use then it makes sense to go prepared.
