Should You Buy Or Rent Certain Types Of Dvds?

Lots of us enjoy watching DVDs, whether it's our favourite TV shows or our favourite movies, for instance. However the question we often ask ourselves is whether we should buy them outright or rent them out instead.

In my opinion the answer is simple because certain types are definitely more suitable for the rental market while others are the type of DVD that you want to actually own permanently. My view is that nearly all types are worth adding to your collection except for movie DVDs. Let me explain why.

In my experience whenever I have actually purchased a movie on DVD I will hardly ever watch it more than once. So it's essentially a waste of money because in most cases I could have rented it out a lot cheaper. Plus there is the fact that even if you may want to watch it again, there is every chance that it will be shown on TV at some point, either on the terrestrial or satellite channels.

Apart from movies though, I think nearly every other type of DVD is suitable for buying because these are the ones most likely to be watched again. I know from experience that whenever I buy complete box sets of TV shows, for example, I am very likely to watch them again a few years down the line. The only exception may be things like detective TV shows because once you have learned who the killer is the first time around, the show will not be anywhere near as enjoyable the second time because you will inevitably remember who the killer is while you are watching it.

A lot of DVD releases actually require repeat viewings such as fitness DVDs and interactive DVD games, so you are obviously going to buy these ones. Other types, particularly comedy releases are also just as funny and enjoyable with repeat viewings as well so these too are worth buying.

Of course this is only my own opinion of course. There will be some people out there who love to watch the same films several times but for me I generally tend to only buy my favourite TV shows on DVD as well as any other ones that may be of interest. The only ones I don't tend to buy are movies because these are the ones that I know I am unlikely to watch more than once.
