Should Your Bed Linen Match Your Bedroom Decor?

Does it really make any difference what bed linen you decide to buy and use in your bedroom? Some will say no, but I think it’s safe to assume that the vast majority of people would tend to disagree. Your bedroom is your own personal sanctuary, irrespective or your age or gender. For children, and especially teens, a bedroom represents a place of their own – their very own private space where they’re the ones who are at the top of the ladder. For adults, a bedroom is a place where one can retire to after a long hard day. It’s a place where romance can blossom, and considering most children are conceived in the bedroom, one could almost say it’s like the nerve centre of one’s family.

When we go shopping for bed linen, it’s all too easy to think only of looks, but there’s more to linen than just aesthetic value. The linen you choose can in fact have a profound impact on your sleeping habits as well. The more welcoming your bedroom feels, the more you’re likely to enjoy your sleep. You might even find yourself retiring a little earlier than usual in the evenings. This little bit of extra sleep each night is in turn going to do wonders for your overall health, and you’re also likely to become a little more productive at work.

When you’ve invested plenty of time and money into getting your bedroom to look just the way you want it, and then you choose linen to match all the other décor in the room, a lackluster romance can also suddenly reignite. Whether you’re after a light and airy atmosphere or whether you prefer something more dark and sensual, matching your linen to the existing décor is undeniably one of the easiest ways to achieve your goals.

Let’s face it, if you’ve decorated your bedroom in such a way so as to give it an old oriental look, complete with rustic wooden furnishings, and perhaps one or two rattan fixtures or oriental style bedside lamps, Disney style linen with images of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck is most definitely going to look out of place. If on the other hand, you opted for a linen set that has an oriental theme, the harmony would be explosively apparent.

Likewise, if you’ve themed your bedroom to be reminiscent of yesteryear, complete with a few antiques or old relics, you wouldn’t want your new bed linen to be representative of the 21st century. Matching bed linen to décor is equally as important when it comes to a child’s bedroom. In fact, it’s probably even more important since children tend to have the wildest imaginations. Of course children might not always be very skilled in terms of mixing and matching, so a certain amount of guidance usually proves to be a great idea. Teens on the other hand usually seem to have their own ideas, and while parents may not share the same tastes, it’s quite often best to allow teens to decide for themselves as to how they want their bedrooms to look.

If you’ve never given it much thought in the past, you really should consider matching your bed linen to the surround décor the next time you give your room a makeover. The difference it can make is honestly quite astonishing.
