DVT Awareness.

Behind the scenes, Today's Host Meredith Vieira shows her support for DVT Awareness!

DVT occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in the lower limbs. It affects up to two million Americans annually. If the clot breaks loose, it can travel to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism. Approximately 300,000 people die each year from PE, the majority of which resulted from a DVT. The best way to reduce your risk of DVT is to talk to your doctor about the risk factors, especially if you have cancer or certain heart or respiratory diseases, or prolonged immobility.
