Side-by-side The Singer 7442 And Singer Curvy 8763 Sewing Machines Review
Singer has taken a nick to its renown over recent years as its operations have shifted to Asia but this model with its aluminum body rather than plastic goes some way to regaining its lost footing. Individuals who have purchased the Singer 7442 have stated that they especially like it because of: - Its simplicity of use - The consistency of its stitching - The auto needle-threader facility and the easy-to-load bobbin - Its low weight - making it comfortable to lift and carry On the down side however, some purchasers have drawn attention to: - The fact that there is no manual adjustment - It has a rather weak LED light - It is not really powerful enough to deal with heavier materials - It sometimes breaks down It has a mixture of accessories which include: - A standard presser foot, a zipper foot, a buttonhole foot, a blind-stitch foot and a satin stitch/special purpose foot - A feed cover - A pack of needles and bobbins, spool caps and pin - A screwdriver, seam ripper and lint brush In addition, the Singer 7442 triumphantly declares that it also has an outstanding 30 built-in stitches and hundreds of functions which will allow you to take on quilting and decorative stitches (e.g. stippling, crown, domino) as well as its own construction stitches, i.e. zigzag, darning and zipper insertion. Some more features of this machine which Singer highlights are: - The built-in needle threader - The 1-step buttonhole function in two styles for uniform buttonholing - The easy stitch selection - Automatic stitch settings - Reverse stitching in the selected stitch patterns - 13 needle positions - A clear bobbin cover to make insertion easy - Either a horizontal or a vertical thread feeder This free-arm sewing machine with its onboard storage is backed up with Singer's 25-year limited warranty. In conclusion I would say that for the price, the Singer 7442 offers many features you may not get with other more costly machines. It does have its pros and cons, as do all machines whether cheap or expensive. I would say that this is a very good model for a novice but may not be sophisticated and functional enough for the more experienced and adventuresome crafter. The Singer Curvy 8763 Sewing Machine is a little more costly than its sister model above but is more suited to the advanced sewer. It is simple to choose which mode of stitch you want and because the stitch patterns are integrated, you know that you will always produce true sewing all the time. It has the exclusive SwiftSmart Threading System which threads the needle with just one touch of a button and the Drop and Sew Bobbin System has a specially designed thread track which eliminates the requirement for you to manually raise the bobbin thread. On the plus side, people who have this model describe that they approve of: - The very good selection of stitches which is available - The robustness of the construction - The particularly well-presented manual On the other hand, some people have complained about: - The pressure of the presser feet is pre-set to only three levels - A twin-needle is not provided with the machine Features and accessories of this machine, in addition to those already listed, include: - 30 built-in stitches - Two 1-step buttonholes - Three StayBright LED lights - A general-purpose foot, a special-purpose foot, a zipper foot, a blind-hem foot - Needles, bobbins - Lint brush and seam ripper - Two spool caps - small and large - A tutorial DVD as well as the manual Generally speaking, and ignoring the price, what's the main difference between the Singer 7442 and Singer 8763? They both have much to commend them but in the main the consensus of opinion of people who have used the machines is that the Singer 8763 is probably more suitable for the advanced sewer and it consistently receives favourable reports.
