Side Effects Of Accutane
Accutane was originally designed as a treatment for severe acne and was never intended to be used as a treatment for minor cases. Side effects and risks associated with the drug outweigh the benefits in mild cases. The drug works by preventing the body's sebaceous glands to produce oil, which is very effective in reducing acne, but also reduces the body of the molecules that retain water to help keep skin, eyes, scalp , and the joints lubricated. Side effects of Accutane can include depression, alopecia or hair loss, back pain, red eyes, birth defects, suicide, abortions, skin low vision problems, dryness of mucous , dry eyes, tinnitus or ringing in the ears, liver damage, low white blood cell count erectile dysfunction, stroke, heart attack, antisocial behavior and aggressive, inflammatory diseases of the bowel, psychosis, bone loss, anaphylaxis, allergic vasculitis, and seizures. These effects have caused much controversy and litigation surrounding the compound. The FDA required a black box warning be placed on all containers of Accutane, warning of risk associated with taking Accutane. This resulted in an appellate court in New Jersey for failing to comply with Hoffman La cause birth defects caused by their product because the company Roche has been diligent in warning patients and providers risks of medicines. The federal court also upheld the Hoffman La Roche in a dispute between Adam Mason, a man who suffered severe inflammatory bowel disease after taking Accutane. This caused him to have most of his colon removed. The courts have confirmed the Hoffman La Roche Mason could not produce the misleading warning, he said he has received. If you have suffered from one of the above side effects, you might consider legal advice.
