Simple Steps To Speed Up Your Computer

Computer performance can suffer over time. Everything you do, from surfing the Web to creating, saving and deleting files adds to the overall slowdown and poor computer performance. There are a few things that you can do to keep your computer working well.

1. Delete Cookies: Cookies are informational tags. They are automatically downloaded to your computer (through your browser) at almost every website that you visit. While these files are very small, the combined size of these files can grow to enormous proportions in a very short time. Deleting them on a regular basis will help keep your computer running.

2. Hard Drive Defragmentation: Every time you create a file, save a file or install or remove a program, your hard drive becomes more fragmented. Fragmentation means that your computer has to search longer to find the appropriate information. Defragmenting your hard drive on a regular basis will keep it running smoothly.

3. Delete Junk Files: You computer amasses an enormous amount of junk files. These are temporary files that are downloaded from websites, applications, even updates for operating systems and deleted files and folders. These junk files clutter your hard drive and make it work more slowly. Deleting these files on a weekly or biweekly basis can help keep your computer working properly.

4. Hard Drive Capacity: Just because your hard drive can hold a certain amount of information does not mean that you can use it all. If your hard drive is more than 75% full, consider uninstalling unused programs or deleting unneeded files and folders. The less information held on your hard drive, the faster it will operate.

5. Edit Your registry: A lean registry means faster boot times and better computer performance. If you are not comfortable editing your registry, invest in a registry editing program; it will tell you which entries can be safely deleted.
