Single Parent Homeroom Activities For School
First of all don't think you have to participate in every activity at school. You don't have the time or resources to do that. Look at your calendar and pick one or two for the year. You'll have more fun as well as give other parents an opportunity to participate. Here are a few things that you can do for a class party. White Crayon Message and Watercolor Take white paper and write a message or draw a simple picture in white crayon. Do one for each child in the class. You can do a couple of designs that corresponds with the event and the kids can see what each other got at the end. At the event, have the children paint watercolors over the paper, the design will show up as a surprise. Hole Punch Design Take card stock and draw a design. Or you can find a design from clip art and make copies. Then have the kids use the hole punch to make holes along the lines. Give them lengths of yarn to weave in and out of the holes. Ping Pong Roll with Spoon Create two teams and let them have a relay race pushing a ping pong ball with a spoon. You can also vary this by having the children balance the ping pong on the spoon as they race. Or have them pass the spoon with the ball back and forth. Connect the Dots This is similar to the hole punch design. Instead of having the children following the line to make holes, you create a connect the dots page. Take a blank piece of paper and cover the page with the design. Trace the design by putting dots about every ¼ inch. Bingo You can get an inexpensive version at the store, or ask around and see if someone would let you borrow one. Go to a party store and get themed prizes. Or if you have time you can have your kids help you make a themed Bingo set. Jump the River This game is a variation of Limbo. You take two pieces of string and lay them on the ground close together. This is the river. All the kids take turns jumping over the space. After each round increase the space between the two pieces of yarn. Seven-up This game is one of the classics. Pick seven children to be it. All the other children put their heads on their desk and stick their thumb in the air. The seven children then walk around and each choose a person by touching the thumb. When they are done selecting, the seven children then move to the front of the room. The seven children that were selected then stand up. Everyone else can sit up and watch. One at a time the chosen children select who they think picked them. If they are correct, they get to take a turn being it. If they are not, they sit down and the person who selected them, gets to take another turn being it. If you find it difficult to get off work to be in attendance at field trips or parties, you can participate in other ways. You can help with snacks and send them with your child. Or you can volunteer to help with Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com Laura has been a parent for 22 years, 13 as a single parent.
