Skateboard Ramp Tricks

Skateboard ramp tricks are not just skateboard tricks that can be done on ramps, like halfpipes and quarterpipes, but also on most other vert/transition environments, such as empty swimming pools, or “bowls” as well. Of course there are far too many of these types of tricks to list them all here, but here are a few of the most common and popular skateboard ramp tricks:

Rotational Tricks
In a nutshell, these are any trick where a skateboarder gets air above the ramp and makes a turn in the air before coming back down into the ramp. For example, a 180 is a rotational turn that goes a half turn, or 180- degrees, and then goes back down into the ramp in the opposite direction from which he came up. Like making a U-turn in the air. There are also 360s, where you come back down the same way you came up, like rolling up and out, and coming back down backwards. 540s, 720s and even 900s have been done as well.

Grabs
These are any trick where a skater gets air above the ramp, and grabs the board with his hand in some manner before coming back down. The most commonly done of these tricks is probably the indy grab. This is where you grab the toeside of your board with your back hand. There are also tail grabs and nose grabs, frontside grab, double grab, backside grab, stalefish grab.

Handplant
The handplant, or invert, is slightly different from most other skateboard ramp tricks in that it is not necessary to get air to properly pull it off. It is when you get to the top of the ramp and plant one hand on the lip of the ramp and grab your board with the other, and basically do a one armed handstand on the top of the ramp before going back down.

The Rock to Fakie
This is possibly the most commonly seen ramp trick. This is when you ride up the ramp and bring your front trucks up above the coping and tap the board on the coping, before lifting the trucks back up over the coping and riding back down backwards (fakie).

Rock and Roll
A rock and roll is a variation of the rock to fakie. The difference being that when you lift the front truck back over the coping to go back down, you make a 180 turn and rifde back in forward instead of fakie.

Stalls
There a several stall tricks. These are where you ride up to the coping and land your nose or tail or something on the coping and “stall” or pause for an instant before re-entering the ramp. There are also axle stalls, where you stop with both trucks on the coping.
