You need to be a confident and ambitious person to be a recruitment consultant. Excellent communication and listening skills are a must as are being able to work with a team. There will be times when he or she will have to think fast and meet deadlines and targets. You should be very much goal oriented have good organisation and strong administrative skills.

Your responsibilit8es will include being able to make cold calls to get new buseinss from new clients, provide a good services so the client gains trust and loyalty in you.

Recruitment Consultants are hired by client firms to find suitable candidates for their job vacancies. As a recruitment consultant you will receive details of vacancies from these clients and your job will be to find some suitable candidates. To do the job well a recruitment consultant will use knowledge of their client companies such as the structure of the company, what the working condition are like and also the personalities of senior positions.

The vacancies could be temporary, permanent or contract work. Also jobs at an entry level right up to very senior positions. The industry could be any type but if you work for a specialist recruitment agency then you will be finding work within that industry. A more general recruitment agency may have teams of people with experience and expertise in each professional field.

As a recruitment consultant you will need to find more than one suitable candidate and check their references before forwarding the application on to the client. Some recruitment consultants will ask for a meeting or a good long phone consultation first so the recruitment consultant can get a feel for the type of person and what their strong abilities are.

It is the job of the consultant to sell the job to them. Telling them all about the benefits of working for their client and what is involved regarding the agency. If the job is done well and the candidate goes on to being employed by the client the recruitment consultant will get a commission for their services.

There are curtain qualification which could help finding a recruitment consultant role such as marketing and public relations, but many consultancies welcome all types of candidates from a range of backgrounds. To an extent the job is a results-driven role, so skills and attitude will be more important than actual academic qualifications.

Recruitment consultants will earn a basic salary with commission on top. The basic salaryfor a trainee consultant is between £15,000 and £20,000. Commission will be negotiated with the client company and could be a further 15% or more of the successful candidate’s salary. With experience you could be earning up to £40,000 and maybe even have the use of a company car and mobile phone at the expense of the agency.
