Small Business Status; Tips On How To Carefully Select The Right Status

When you are setting up your business, it is always a good idea to have a structure that you want the business to take. This will give you an idea of what you will need to acquire to have your business run as smoothly as possible. The structure you choose will largely depend on the type of products or services that you will be providing. This will help you find your small business status. There are various types of small business formats.

There is the sole proprietorship which is started and operated by the individual. This means that all your assets are tied to the business. This can be risky especially if you have borrowed money to start your business. If you default on making payments, these can be sold to recover what you owe. There is also the partnership small business status. This is a business that is owned by two or more individuals. There is usually no formal written agreement but it is always advisable to have one. This way you avoid complicating matters concerning division of funds. The debts of the business are to be shared by the partners even if they are not created personally.

There is also a limited liability partnership. This works just like an ordinary partnership, except that the liability of the parties concerned is limited to what they have invested. Another small business status is a Limited Company. The way it works is that it limits the liability that the business owners should the business not succeed. It is also recognized differently under the law. Debts that arise belong to the company and not the partners. They can either be private or public.

A franchise is another type of business status. You use an already established name and brand and operate an independent branch. It is possible to change your small business status as your business grows.
