Small To Medium Enterprises And E-learning
Right now, electronic learning is viewed by majority of corporations as an answer to this type of situation because of the flexibility that it offers. Long term learning may be possible because of it. This is why up to sixty percent of the corporate training demand is being provided by innovative training delivery especially in the Information Communication Technology sector. Small and Medium Enterprises’ uptake is going at a snail’s pace and is frustrating a lot of people’s expectations. It seems that the industry is not able to take full advantage of electronic learning according to several studies by the European Commission. But the more than half of Europe’s industry is small and medium businesses. Surveys find that small and medium enterprises only use electronic learning for training ICT employees and managers only. The study was done for the major European countries. Thus the results of the studies are the great lack of training procedures in SME, lacking learning tools and materials, adverse reaction of a significant number of managers, lack of internet connection speed necessary for electronic learning. Generally speaking, even though the ICT industry is really growing and many companies are coming out of the woodwork and despite the European Union’s efforts to increase the development and use of electronic learning within ICT industries, the results are still not enough. The cultural acceptance of the virtual classroom or training room has been great. But this is ruled by a fixation with the technology. The content and the vocational vision of electronic learning that is needed to for real learning to occur and the development of the electronic learning environment is lacking. What all the research basically concludes is that work training is being had mostly in the social or on hand situation. This means that learning new skills is more informal than formal as is seen in the case of small to medium enterprises in Europe. Thus, for e-learning to truly have a significant impact and revolutionize the entire work training culture of the global business, then it needs to be embedded in the corporation’s process or within the worker’s work life. Information communication technology is in itself a key element in the implementation of e-learning for small to medium enterprises. ICT must help create more access to learning opportunities by being promptly adopted within the business organization directly.
