I have always wanted to be a writer. I remember when I was in kindergarten and just learning how to read. I loved stories and always though them up in my head. I knew from that point on that when I grew up I was going to be a writer. No, I haven't had a novel published yet, just a few poems, but I have written a lot and I will always continue to pursue it.
If you want to be a creative writer, what's stopping you? Are you worried you'll never get published? Are you worried you are just so terrible that no one will ever want to read your work? That is never a reason to stop writing. You could keep writing even if nobody every read your work, but of course that is not the reason why you write. You write creatively for the enjoyment of other people to read your work, right?
If you want to become a good writer, you need critics. If you are afraid to have people read your work, you aren't ready to be a writer. You should want people to read your work. You don't have to have people read every single word your write, but you should create some pieces with intent to have others see it. This will also help you to get in the habit of editing your work and making it better. If you ever want to get published you will have to make it perfect.
Always write. This is the most important thing you can do as a creative writer. Never stop writing. Write every day for as long as you can. If you have writer's block, just keep writing. Write nonsense in your journal if you have to. The moment you stop writing, your desire to pick up the pencil again will get weaker. Just keep going. Before you know it, your writing will improve more and more.
Read all the time. You don't have to copy the work of other writer's to become a good writer, but you should read a lot in order to keep learning about writing. You can learn how to write better dialogue, description, plots, conflicts, and other parts of writing. If you love to write, you probably love to read also, so this shouldn't be hard for you.
If you want to be a creative writer, you have to love writing and you have to be a creative person. If you love to write and you are creative, the stories or poems will just come to you and with a little persistence, you will write great work that others will be able to enjoy as well.
