Some Notions About Choosing A New Career

Some Of The Top Notions about Choosing a New Career

When you are about to step into the professional world, you are faced with the choice of choosing a career for yourself. A lot of people believe that it's as easy as a walk in the park, when, in fact, it is far more grueling than one can imagine. Let's look at the top 3 notions that people harbor about choosing a new career.

Choosing a career is a Piece of Cake

It most certainly isn't. Choosing a career is an a process that involves a lot of thought, planning, strategy, research and development. All this requires hard work. Choosing a new career is nothing short of a life changing decision and it needs to be done carefully, not whimsically. You need to look beyond "Oh, my family has done this for many years," and "Hey, my best friend likes that job, so it must be good," or "This job has been listed among the top jobs, so this is where I need to be."

Choosing a career means understanding your own potential. Are you suited for this job? Do you have the necessary skills sets and qualifications? Are you ready to do what the job will demand of you? These are some the things that you need to sit down and consider.

My Hobby Cannot Be My Job

Why not? Of course it can. There are countless examples of people who have made money from turning their hobbies into careers. People with interest in flowers have gone on to set up flower shops. Those that were interested in adventure, found a way to establish their own adventure sports enterprise. If you can find a way to make your hobby bring in the daily bread and better, that will keep you professionally happy and satisfied for a long time.

I Need To Find a Job Where I can Make Loads of Money

Not a bad motivation at all. But this kind of motivation is usually short lived. Getting a great salary check does have its thrills, but they don't last for too long. You will need more than money to be happy in a job. Therefore, when choosing a new career it's best to try and keep a balance between money and your innate interests. Do not take up a career simply because it can make you a lot of money.
