One of the first things you discover when you start posting to article directories is that they are not all the same. With the vast majority there be the requirement to register your name, penname, and email address.
Then you discover the huge variety of directories, i.e. there are heaps of directories that are in certain niches. This means research on your behalf to make sure you are posting to the right directory. If your article is not relevent, it will be rejected by the site-master without a second look. Relevence is everything.
And then there are the article directories like this one at http://articledashboard.com and others that are generalists. This means they have large amounts of categories for users to post in. But relevence still matters. You still have to post in the correct category or your article will be rejected.
You may think this seems a little harsh, but you have to remember these directories get hundreds or thousands of submissions a day, and they have to be checked by human staff for relevence. They don't have time to edit your post category for you.
The other thing to remember is that many automated blogs use the rss feeds from these sites to populate their blogs. So they need to be sure their feeds contain only the relevent data their system requires. Their sites input also affects the google adsense ads they have. So if they are getting non-relevent feed, they will be getting non-relevent adsense ads, and they don't make any money from the blog. Not good.
