Sony Ericsson W850i Mobile Phone Review

The Sony Ericsson Walkman phones are amongst the most popular models available at the moment, and one of the best in terms of both features and looks is the W850i. It has been designed and optimised to offer the best possible music features around, as well as continuing to uphold the high standards of equipment and usability that all Sony Ericsson mobile phones are famous for.

The W850i is a slide phone with a smooth action, and comes finished in matt black and striking orange to make it a very distinctive handset. It has all the controls for playing music available on the outside of the phone even when closed, and you can access most features of the phone whenever you want without even having to open it.

As you would expect for a phone which is designed with music in mind, the user interface on the Sony Ericsson W850i is straightforward and elegant. It is very easy to navigate through the menu systems, and to get access to the functions that you want.

The internal memory of the W850i is slightly disappointing at just 64MB, but this can be easily upgraded using a standard Sony memory stick, and with 2GB on board, the phone can store around 450 songs in either AAC or MP3 format, depending on what is available.

As with most modern mobile phones, the Sony Ericsson W850i comes complete with a 2 mega pixel camera with a zoom, and you can share images via either Bluetooth or USB2.0. By connecting to the internet via a high speed GPRS link, you can download files quickly, and access your email and messenger service easily and without any problems. The phone is capable of reading most file formats including Microsoft office files, although some will require a software download that is widely available from the Sony Ericsson website.

The Sony Ericsson W850i has an impressive battery life, offering around 400 hours on standby, and talk time of approximately 9 hours, although if you listen to a great deal of music, you will probably get a lot less time from the phone.

If you love music, and want a phone that works well as a music player, then this is a good choice, and will act very well as a mobile under most circumstances. It is widely available as a free upgrade, and is a popular choice with anyone who looks for quality and flexibility.
