Special Considerations For Kidney Patients

Sugar and Protein: Too much intake of sugar, sodium and proteins will leads in development of calcium or calcium oxalate stones. Sugar is the major problem. We can take sugar in a limited quantity. Better reduce sodium and proteins. Sodium is the direct source for the increment of calcium quantity. As sodium intake reduces then the quantity of calcium passes through urine increases. It is recommended to use 2600 to 4000 mg of sodium in a day, but not more than that. When comes to protein, it increases the mass of the stones in kidneys. Proteins help the development of calcium in kidney stones. Therefore people who are suffering with this problem are recommended to use less protein until their problem was solved.

High intake of insoluble of fiber: As we know there are two types of fibers. Soluble and insoluble. Insoluble fiber like rye, barley helps to reduce the amount of calcium in the urine. Insoluble fiber combines with calcium and this calcium excreted through kidneys. So doctor’s advice is to take more insoluble fiber to reduce the amount of calcium quantity in our kidneys.


Less vitamin C: Most physicians recommend taking fewer vitamins C. Oxalate produces when we take vitamin C. This is not the good option for kidneys. It is not a good idea to take vitamin C when you are having problem with kidney stones.

More fluid Intake: A mineral water helps to remove stones in our kidneys. This is the most important method to solve this problem. Water purifies our kidneys. If kidneys carry small stones then water cleans those stones and passes through bladder without any pain. Almost 40% of cases are solved without any treatment only because of water. Always take 4 to 5 liters of water per day.

Well, there are many home made treatments to solve kidney problems. Prevention is always better than cure.
