The procedure of Artificial insemination enables the sperm to be directed placed in the reproductive tract of a female. Intravaginal Insemination
Home insemination kits are making intravaginal insemination a really popular option for women who do not wish to go down the route of natural insemination if the male sperm donor is not their partner. This form involves the placement of sperm directly into the vagina near the cervix. Although this can be done at a fertility clinic, IVI is usually performed by a couple or individual in the comfort of their own home.

IVI is most effective if the woman is ovulating. Semen is depositerd into a sterile cup by the male and then stored in a sterile syringe. The syringe can then be inserted all the way inside the woman's vagina until it is close to the cervix. The semen is then injected by the cervix.

The cost of the IVI procedure in a sperm bank or fertility clinic can range up to $500. The success rate of this procedure is 10 to 30 percent.
Intracervical Insemination

Unlike IVI Intracervical Insemination is only performed at the fertility clinic. A doctor will place the sperm sample directly inside the cervix so that it is able to travel through the uterus and up the fallopian tubes. During the procedure, the woman's vagina is held open with a speculum. A catheter is inserted into the exposed cervix. Attached to the catheter is the syringe containing the sperm sample; the sperm travels through the catheter and directly into the cervix.

ICI is a popular method that is not too costly. The success rate is 10 percent but can be raised to 30 percent with numerous procedures per cycle.
Intra Uterine Insemination

IUI is a similar procedure to ICI however the semen bypasses the cervix and is inseminated directly into the uterus thus providing greater opportunity for the sperm to penetrate the awaiting egg. Success rates for this procedure are a little higher at around 33% success. Check your local fertility clinic success rates before you decide which option you may choose.
