Stained Glass Art And Its Many Forms

Stained glass is a term used to describe a colored glass which forms a picture when arranged in a proper pattern. These glasses are highly useful and can be used for a variety of purposes. These can be used for making lamps, windows of churches and cathedrals. Creating windows is a very creative and tough task. A highly skilled and creative person is required to carry out this task.

During the manufacturing of stained glass, metallic salts are added into it so as to make it colored. This colored glass is then arranged into different patterns supported by frame and connected by lead strips.

Stained glasses were first used in Rome. These offer a number of benefits to the individuals such as privacy, long life-span, reduces sun glares and also brings down energy costs. These days, such glasses are available in a number of colors and textures. These are available in mainly four styles. These are:
opalescent, cathedral, wispy and streaked.

Opalescent-This is a semi-opaque glass with translucent milky appearance. This glass comprises of a single color or a mixture of many colors.

Cathedral-This clear and tinted glassrs is also called as transparent glass. It is commonly used in churches and cathedrals. This type of glass is available in a wide variety of colors and designs.

Wispy Glass-When the cathedral and opalescent glass are stirred together, we get wispy glass.

Streaked glass-When the two colors of opalescent are mixed, streaked glass is obtained. This is a translucent glass with extra visual dimension.

These are few important styles of stained glasses. The individuals can choose as per their choice and budget.
