Stainless Steel Manufacturing In India

stainless steel is a metal, it is an iron containing alloy. The metal is made up of at least two or more chemical elements used in a wide range of applications in industries. The quality that makes it stand out from other elements is the ability to resist staining or rusting due to its chromium content, which is usually from 12 to 20% of the alloy. stainless steel Flanges recognized as standard alloys, to many proprietary produced by different stainless steel producers. These different types of steel are used in almost number of applications and different industries: such as handling equipment, construction industry, building exteriors, automobile industry, chemical processing plants, pulp and paper industry, water supply industry, consumer products, shipbuilding and many more. Steel industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. The Steel industry is termed to be in the matured stage and has been the back bone of any nation; it deals with certain specific process like hot rolling and cold rolling stainless steel sheets. Stainless steel is a subset of iron based alloys, which has a minimum Chromium content of about 10.5%. Chromium presence makes the material more passive or corrosion resistant (Stainless). To this, different specifications can be made as per the chemical composition that can be useful in case of different corrosion conditions, different temperatures, and required strength to improve weldability, machinability and formability.

As per the recent data an approximately about 200,000 tons of nickel containing stainless steel Flanges are being used by the food processing industry each year in North America. According to U.S. Department of Commerce, 1992 shipments of all stainless steels totaled 1,514,222 tons. There are several types of Flanges in stainless steel depending on their microstructure. Austenitic stainless steels which contains at least 6% of nickel and austenite that is carbon containing iron with a face centered cubic structure, carbon steels have a good corrosion resistance and high ductility (the material can bend without breaking). Ferritic stainless steels (these ones are the ones having body centered cubic structure) have better stress corrosion than the austenitic ones, but these ones are difficult to weld. The last ones in this type is Martensitic stainless steel contain iron having nickel like structure.

Duplex stainless steel, these types are the ones which will have an equal amount of ferrite and austenite contain in it. The balanced contain of the ferrite and austenite material enables the Duplex steel in having better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in most environments. These material also enjoy the facility of better resistance to cracking due to the chloride stress corrosion, they are twice as strong as the normal austenitics. Therefore the duplex steels are widely used in many industries such as chemical, refineries, gas- processing plants, water piping and so on.

As per a recent report from MEPS (2007), the prices for the Stainless Steel Flanges are to a larger extent depended on the Nickel. A report from MEPS (International, 2 May 2007) signifies that the content of Nickel in the Stainless Steel Flanges is likely to go down, because of which the prices for the Stainless Steel Flange may see the downward trend. They revealed that the stainless steel industry did reach a life time high and will continue to grow but will grow mainly through the promotion of 200 and 400 grades, if Nickel stays stable. As per an Analyst in J P Morgan, (Michael Jansen), Nickel might again run through USD 50,000 pt but on a longer run he quotes a lower price for the metal. The average 2008 price forecast will be around USD 20,000 a tonne level, (23 March 2007).
