Stairlift Safety

One of the most important things to consider with a stairlift is safety. Having a safe stairlift is not only important to the person using it, but that person’s family as well.

People look into getting a stairlift when they have mobility issues. A stairlift is designed to help a person have more freedom than they would otherwise. There are a variety of stairlifts that suit a variety of needs. If someone has arthritis and it is difficult to walk up and down the stairs comfortably then a stairlift can be used. Others may need to use a wheelchair and a stairlift is a great way for that person to move freely from upstairs to downstairs as well.

The first step to stairlift safety is finding the right model. It needs to fit the stair design, such as being a curved or straight stairway. It also needs to be a model that will work for the person, such as being wheelchair accessible for those that need a wheelchair to move around. Others might need to use a cane or walker. These individuals can sit in a chair stairlift and put their cane or walker on a provided hook or on their lap. Then when they reach the top or bottom of the stairs they have what they need to more freely on that floor.

There are a variety of safety features, but one of the most sought after is high-tech safety limit sensors. These are becoming standard safety features for stairlifts and are used in an emergency. It is vital that the stairlift stops if a foreign object gets in the way of the stairlift moving. The item could be as little as a shoe and as important as a family pet. This safety measure makes sure that everyone is safe even those not in the chair.
