Starting Your Very Own Garden

When you were a kid you probably spent lots of time playing in the dirt. You dug up the earth, created castles, and drove toy cars on the small dirt roads. Being allowed to play in the dirt or sand outdoors as a child may have allowed you an elaborate imagination where you dreamed of adventures in other worlds. Time is limited when we become adults and playing in the dirt becomes a thing of the past. That is why so many adults work tirelessly to begin a garden. As gardeners, you have an excuse to play and work in the dirt however often or little you like! If you have thought about beginning your own garden, here are some things you should do if you want to make sure your garden is successful.

Don't let your plants totally dry out. While it is true that there are plants that seem to grow better in drier soil conditions that does not mean that you can completely forget about watering them. Every seedling needs to be watered. You don't have to make mud out of your dirt but at least a little moisture is needed if you want your seedlings to live. The type of plants you are trying to raise will dictate the amount of water that you need to provide to help your garden thrive. Learn the amount of water they need and how often they need it before you plant your seedlings. You don't want your plants to drown or dry out! You need to be patient if you want to be a good gardener. The fact of the matter is that you are just going to have to wait for a while before you will see any real tangible results of your work. The only way to bypass the waiting period is to buy plants that have already sprouted and blossomed from your local plant nursery. If you do not want to spend any money on "already grown" plants, get used to the idea of being patient and doing a lot of work while waiting to see the results of your labor. Don't freak out if you have to wait a long time to see your plants break through the surface of your soil--it can take weeks or even months for this to happen.

Don't rush. You might think about having a yard that is full of blossoming plants. If you haven't ever grown your own garden, you should start with just a plant or two. This way you don't have to fret about putting forth a large effort for something that you might not like very much in the long run. If you want to be a gardener you need to be prepared to make a commitment to your plants and you need to be patient. Would you marry a person you'd never been out with? Why would you dedicate your entire yard to vegetables if you hadn't ever grown a single strawberry?
Lots of people find gardening very exciting! You're probably already starting to imagine what it will look like when everything is in bloom. Of course, before you can get to your dreams, you need to put in some work. You need to take specific steps to make sure that your dream comes true. Doing some of the work before you begin planting and making sure to keep up with gardening tips and trends will help you make sure that you get the garden that you have been daydreaming of having.
