Steps A Laguna Beach Photography Business Can Reduce Costs
A recession can be a difficult time for any business. Professional photography businesses are no different. However used properly, a photography business can come out of the recession better prepared to thrive. The following are some suggestions on how a photographer can take advantage of the opportunity that a recession provides.
1. Focus on value. If you are offering superior value to your clients your market share will increase. All of those businesses that don't offer great value will likely not survive - creating an opportunity for you - one of those who did.
2. Keep prices in line with your costs. If you costs go down because your suppliers have been forced to lower their prices as well, pass some of these savings on to your client. By offering your same packages at lower prices you will be adding value (see number one).
3. Offer Mini-Session. Mini-Sessions are simply session where two or three clients are photographed in the time normally reserved for one client. This will allow the photographer to lower the price for the session. The lower price will attract price sensitive people. Many of whom simply want a good shot to put on their Holiday cards and a few prints. Alone it would not be necessarily be worth a photographer's time. However multiplied by three and it can be a real profit center. Additionally, from time to time a mini-session client will order a full blown package. Combined with the other two orders will result in time well spent.
4. Share studio space. If you are a photographer who has seen a fall in his bookings your studio will be emptier than it has been in the past. Allow another photographer who has yet open a studio rent out the studio when needed. This will bring in an additional source of income into the business.
5. Have the lowest paid person in the studio do the highest level of work of which he is competent to do. It doesn’t make sense to have a lead photographer upload images to a blog. By following this tactic, a photographer should be able to lower the cost of producing a product and offer that price savings to his clients.
Recessions can be difficult times. However, by using the time effectively a photographer can be more competitive and in a better to take advantage of any economic recovery.
