Stopping Panic Attacks In Pregnant Women

The time of a pregnancy is a very complicated one indeed, with both a variety of physical and emotional issues occurring at the same time. This can be problematic for women without any kind of mental disorder, but for this with anxiety or panic attack issues, pregnancy is especially problematic. First of all, there are many hormone and neurotransmitter imbalances that occur naturally during pregnancy, which can exacerbate existing anxiety conditions. In addition to those physical, chemical changes, there is also a lot of emotional stress that happens. Anybody who does not experience some level of stress during a pregnancy is certainly a formidable human indeed, because it is such a trying time on the mother.

In fact, there are many women who experience their first panic attack when they are pregnant. While this usually happens to people who already have anxiety issues, besides being diagnosed with full blown Panic Disorder, it can also happen to those with a history of these disorders in their family, and more rarely, those with no history of any kind. For those with no prior panic attacks, the first one will most often happen during the first trimester, when a specific hormone's levels rise very quickly in the body. For those who are especially unprepared for this spike, the result can be a panic attack.

Dealing with panic attacks while pregnant are not as easy as during when you are not pregnant. This is because you have to take into account the growing child also, and there are many things you cannot take during pregnancy that would help mitigate panic attacks. For example, most pharmaceutical drugs are off the table because their levels of toxicity (that's right, virtually every pill you take is toxic in some way) are dangerous to infants. Only certain methods can be used to combat panic attacks in pregnant women, and even some natural treatments cannot be used because of their properties.
