Storing Your Pipe Tobacco
1. If you also smoke cigars, one rule that you want to remember is to keep your pipe tobacco away from your cigars. Cigars make the tobacco dry, not only that, they have a way of sucking the flavor out of them. Unless you want flavorless, dry pipe tobacco, keep them away from each other. 2. Store your tobacco in glass jars. Not just any jars, new jars. Some mistakenly believe that they can use old jelly jars with lids or old pickle jars. They assume this is an inexpensive way to store tobacco. However, it can actually ruin your tobacco to the point where you will have to throw it away. No matter how well you wash the jars, the rubber around the lids could hold in scents from the previous contents. You do not want to contaminate your new tobacco with the smell of pickles. Buying new jars is worth the cost. 3. Store your jars in a cool and dry place. You want to keep them out of sunlight. You also want a pretty stable temperature. A cupboard or closet would be fine. A basement is also a good place for storage. Following these tips will enable you to keep tobacco for years, it is well worth the time. It will still be as fresh as flavorful as the day it was bought.
