Strategies For Writing Great Content
Even if you’re not a Pulitzer Prize winner or a skilled copywriter, you can still write content that’s good enough to earn you sales. You need to write in a way that will maximize your chances for making sales. Here’s a formula that you can use to help you maximize your potential with the written word. Content Writing Musts When writing content for blogs, websites or articles you must do the following: • Provide value to the reader • Grab the reader’s attention • Write for your target audience • Don’t forget your call to action Provide Value Why will someone want to read your article? If it educates, entertains or solves a problem it can be very effective. When you craft a piece of content, make sure you remember that you want to achieve something for those reading it. Read it back to yourself after it’s completed and look at it with objective eyes seeing if you yourself find it interesting. Grab the Reader When you write content for the internet you have a very small window of opportunity to grab a reader’s attention. If you bore them or turn them off by the look of your page or choice of words, they’ll simply move on to another site. Write catchy headlines, get to the point quickly and break up the article with plenty of white space. One long continuous block of text will look like too much effort for the reader, but if they can see catchy headings that preview what the next interesting section is going to be about, you’ll increase the chances of the reader getting to the call to action at the end. Short paragraphs with catchy and keyword dense subheadings every few paragraphs will make your content scannable to the eye and scannable to the search engines that will bring you traffic. Write in the active voice instead of writing around a topic with a long song and dance and write with a conversational tone. This can take practice but is a skill you can quickly develop. This will enable you to develop a writing voice that is enjoyable to your reader and makes writing enjoyable for you as well. Know Who You’re Writing For You need to write content for your target audience. If you have more than one demographic, write separately for each group. Not knowing who you are writing to will suck the essence out of your content and leave it dry and lacking. You won’t convert very many site visitors into customers without writing specifically to your target audience. If you’re writing to novices, use lay terms. If you’re writing to knowledgeable people, bring your reading level up a notch. If you’re writing to the very young instead of a more mature crowd, adapt your writing. This sounds simple but many people forget this important fact when they write. It’s very effective. The Call to Action Don’t leave the reader hanging! Conclude the article with something helpful. Don’t be afraid to say, “Click here for more info!” or “Subscribe to my blog to get more helpful tips in the future!” You’ve written in an effort to whet the reader’s appetite so at the end of your content offer them something that will satiate their hunger, it’s what will increase your chances of converting a visitor into a buyer.
