The reason for this is that stress is more than an irritant for humans, as those who are very stressed out can probably see. Too much stress over a long time can effect the body and mind in multiple ways such as:

* Increases your blood pressure
* Can lead to depression, anxiety disorders and panic attacks
* Lowers your immune system
* Causes hormonal imbalance
* Cause anger and irritability which hurts social connections and family

This is possible from a number of angles that are mainly about lowering cortisol which is a hormone produced under stress and promoting the feel good chemicals in your body such as endorphins. Some tips to do this are:

Intense Exercise - Exercise at a high enough intensity produces endorphins in your body that make you feel confident, happy and in control which combats the stressful feelings you may have. Doing this will also boost your immune system as exercise makes you healthier and promotes good immune response.
Music Therapy - Studies have shown that listening to relaxing music while doing nothing else allows the body to eliminate cortisol levels and sparks the production of endorphins too. This is a bit like being able to meditate in a way which is also good for lowering stress levels.
Exist in the Now - A great amount of highly stressed people are so because they are anxious about things they cannot change from the past or by what is in the future that they cannot change. Instead you should live life in the moment. You should not stop planning for tomorrow or learning from the past but when you are beginning to stress because of something you cannot alter you must put those thoughts aside because they are negative and intrusive and do nothing for you.
