Stress Headache Causes
Headache Types Headache is a term used to describe aching or pain that occurs in one or more areas of the head, face, mouth, or neck. Headache involves the network of nerve fibers in the tissues, muscles, and blood vessels located in the head and at the base of the skull. There are two main categories of headache: primary and secondary. The major types of primary headaches include: • Tension headache • Cluster headache • Migraine Primary headaches are not caused by other underlying medical conditions. More than 90% of headaches are primary. Common causes of tension headache • Stress • Missing a meal • Bad posture • Lack of exercise • Anxiety and depression • Sometimes hormonal changes in women • Ironically – taking too many painkillers for headaches! • Grinding your teeth at night (see your Dentist for help with this) The solution to these types of headache doesn't lie in taking headache medications. Instead, you should try to find out the actual reason that is compelling you to remain under stress. Once you know about the factors contributing stress to you, you can either modify your lifestyle to curb the stress or you can learn to manage the stress. Headaches come in a variety of forms, and plague millions of people on a daily basis. Sometimes they can be caused by lack of food, or tiredness, sometimes they are a symptom of a virus or other illness, and sometimes they are caused by stress. Stress headaches are not believed to be hereditary. They are usually accompanied by tensed muscles in the neck - sometimes the tension in the neck can make the headache worse. Stress headaches are usually tied to something going on around the sufferer - from work or school related stress, to family issues or relationship breakups.
