Student Storage: Leave Your Summer Stresses Behind!
Easistore understands that throughout the course of university, students often accumulate a whole host of possessions, so has put together their essential student storage tips to relieve any worries and make sure the summer months are as relaxing as they can be. • Plan your storage space. Label or number anything packed into boxes or bags – trust us, there’s nothing worse than being unable to find your more prized possessions. For the same reason store any items that you will need to access more frequently until last so they are near the front. Easistore also suggests that you leave a centre aisle for easy access to all items and avoid leaning things against walls to help ventilation. • Make sure all your things are clean and dry before putting them into storage. Cleaning fridges and defrosting freezers will ensure that there is no water damage as well as avoiding mildew. It also helps to leave the doors slightly ajar once in storage and wiping down the inside of appliances with baking soda to keep them dry. Don’t forget to utilise the space inside appliances for any stray items. • Dismantle furniture and other bulky items where possible, this allows greater room within your storage space as well as aiding their transport. Legs can be detached from beds, chairs and tables and larger sections can be stored on their side to maximise space. Just remember to wrap smaller pieces in bubble wrap and label them clearly to prevent damage and ease reassembly. • The last thing anyone wants is to find items broken or battered when retrieving them from self storage, the key is in the packing. Wrap mirrors and pictures with bubble wrap, blankets or paper – never store these items flat and avoid putting heavy items on top. Sealing all boxes with strong tape and packing snugly will prevent collapsing when stacked as well as keeping out dust. Dust sheets between surfaces and on the floor of the storage unit will also ensure that scratches and signs of wear are kept at bay. • Stay safe! Only fill storage boxes to a safe, liftable weight and pack heavier items like files and books in smaller boxes so you can lift them without risking injury. Remember to always lift heavy items correctly; bend your knees and keep your back straight. Easistore also recommend that you label any heavy items to avoid any mishaps.
