Success Strategies For Moms Who Work At Home

It is easy for moms who work at home to become overwhelmed with work, family and housekeeping duties. Stay at home moms who work are providing a valuable service to their families. Here are 5 success strategies for balancing work and home:

Set goals for your business, home and personal life. Why did you decide to work at home? Do you need full-time or part-time income? What do you need to accomplish each day to properly care for your home and children? Make a list of your goals and responsibilities and arrange them in order of priority.

Develop a flexible schedule. Develop a routine that gives order to your day. If your work hours are flexible, work during naptimes or times your children are occupied with an independent activity. Reserve specific times in your day for cooking, cleaning and interacting with your children.

organize your home. reduce clutter by sorting items into stacks to put away, throw away and give away. Mark your calendar with appointments and tasks that must be completed daily, weekly and monthly. Set up a work space in a quiet area that contains a desk, computer, printer, telephone and office supplies. Make sure you have special activities on hand to keep your children busy when you need to work without interruption.

Don't work independently. Rely on family and friends for support. If your children are young, consider hiring a part-time nanny or housekeeper. If your children are older, let them help you with housework, meal preparation and small business tasks. Work together and teach your family how to function as a team.

Practice saying no. Many working moms feel pressure to fill up their free time with commitments outside of the home. Don't sacrifice your priorities in order to avoid the guilt that comes from saying no. Practice making statements like, "I'd love to help, but our schedule is full" and "I can't take on anything else at this time" until they feel natural to you. If all else fails, simply say, "I need to think about it."
