Successful Filmmaking - Tips On How To Hire The Right Type Of Actors

When you are first getting started with filmmaking, you most likely do not have the budget to hire an actor the caliber of Johnny Depp or Tom Cruise, for example. You will picking unknown actors and they may be just ok, good or very good. So, what do you look for when hiring actors? Two key points you are looking for are personality and looks.

First we'll look at personality:

There are a lot of actors out there who aren't necessarily that talented but they have lots of personality. There are different facets of personality you can watch for. Some people are naturally great talkers and people like to listen to them no matter what the subject is. Others have a winning smile or something special about the way they laugh. Some actors may be good at telling jokes, or one liners.

For a good example, think about actors that you see on the talk shows on tv. Even when they aren't acting some are just riveting to listen to on the show. Then there are the ones that are so boring that you find yourself taking a nap while they are on. What you want is someone who is so interesting to listen to that you can listen to them speak for hours.Trust me, they are not hard to spot. As soon as they open their mouths you can tell who they are.

Next we'll consider looks:

It's definitely a reality that moviegoers like to see a face that they feel looks like the part they are playing. Not necessarily someone who looks good, since every part doesn't call for that. There are a lot of character actors out there who are downright homely looking, but someone they just fit the part. Believe it or not, finding one who does look the part will help make up for a lack in their acting
ability.

So, you see that even though as a beginning film maker you can't have your pick of the best and most famous actors out there, you can learn how to pick a winner. Just use the guidelines for picking a great personality and looks the part and you will compensate fairly well for lack of experience or genuine ability.
