Sunkist's Clear Container Gets Makeover
Sunkist is taking packaging to a whole new level. Their protein product line is described in the Health Care Packaging article "Sunkist's stand-up protein pouch delivers innovative dispensing." Sunkist has chosen to think beyond a clear container and instead showcase their cutting edge packaging, in the form of a hot-fill capable pouch. When you think Sunkist, protein drink isn't the first thought to come to mind. The company's wickedly famous clear container packaged orange drink put them on the map, so why stray away? Apparently they had a few fruity protein recipes they couldn't resist sharing. Protein 24g, one of Sunkist's protein drinks is packaged in a clear container tempered to handle the heat involved in hot-fill processes. A clear container of that usefulness marks a turn in modern day packaging. Not many clear container models have been sturdy enough to endure hot-fill processes until now. Moving on, Protein Shots (available in 42g and 25g variations) are presented in a test tube-like clear container, offering the product in a "better, smaller, faster, concentrated" form for those who crave protein on the go. To put it simply, they're lean, mean and hot-filled too! The final product I want to highlight is the bulk packaged Protein 24g. Instead of the typical clear container used for the smaller sized product, the 48 servings of fruit punch flavored protein drink is stored in a specially designed stand-up pouch, outfitted with a convenient, dispensing fitment. Just think of it as a huge Capri-Sun, minus the straw. The hot-filled product can stay fresh for up to two years thanks to the pouch's hermetic seal. The hot-fill Sunkist pouch has impacted the packaging world in a big way. The creation of a bag that can survive intense heat is very exciting for packagers who are looking toward the future of the industry. Other well known companies are trying to make a name for themselves within the protein trend, but from this perspective, it looks as if all will far short to Sunkist in terms of packaging innovation. A clear container used to be just a clear container, now it can be a hot-filled pouch, what's next? Before you know it we'll all be buying food packaged in foil pouches just like those futuristic cartoons and space movies told us we would. 2012 marks a new era of packaging. Whether you're a fan of futuristic trends or just want to package in a clear container, we can help.
