Survive A Holiday With The Kids

Taking your children on their first holiday can be a rewarding, fun, but very trying experience, especially if you have more than one child under five. So if you’re wondering how you’ll keep them occupied whilst you ensure that you and your significant other can have a good time, then here are a few tips for travelling with young children.

Don’t Tire Them Out

Some people believe that tiring children out before a long car journey or flight is the best way to help them get through the travelling portion of their holiday. But this method often fails, as more often than not, the adults become more sleep deprived and tired in their efforts to tire out the children, which leads to a difficult trip for everyone involved. So try not to upset the children’s routine too much, unless you absolutely have to such as if you have an early flight.

Bribe Them

Every parent will be used to the idea of bribing their children in order for them to behave, so why not extend this notion to travelling too? Once the kinds are safely settled in the car or plane, present them with brand new toys that they can play with during the journey, but remind them that these are for good behaviour, and if they are naughty then they will be taken away from them.

Let Go

Try to remember what it was like for you as a child when you went on holiday, try to relive those feelings of excitement, anticipation and nervousness. Understand that this is a brand new experience for your children, and that while they probably won’t behave like saints on holiday, they will have the opportunity to learn about acceptable behaviour on a summer holiday from a young age.
