The Bear’s Den: “demagoguery – Plain And Simple”
We’ve come to place in this country where public shootings, bomb attacks and the death of others in a public setting seem routine, if not common. On January, 8, 2011, a 22-year old nut shot and killed six people, and wounded a slew more, in a grocery store parking lot. It happened in Tucson, Arizona, where Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords had set up a booth in the lot to hear the concerns of constituents. Among the dead were an 9-year old girl and a Federal judge; the Congresswoman was one of the wounded. It was a senseless and horrifying act, and, no matter what, it should not have happened. But then, neither should have all of the pomp and hoopla that has followed it, either. The definition of demagoguery is: the impassioned appeals to the prejudices and emotions of the populace. Those using this tragedy for their own purposes are from both parties of Congress – red and blue alike, and, to my mind, are demagogues. Congresswoman Giffords is a democrat. So, the Democratic Party spoke out. She is one of their own. The first thing they did was demagogue and say the shooting happened because of what Conservatives and Republicans have been saying. It doesn’t matter that there’s no truth to their argument – they are using the situation for all it’s worth. There is not one iota of proof – whatsoever – that the killer shot up that Safeway parking lot because of Conservative words, and most normal two-leggeds know this. But, if you know how they work, then you expect this from the Democrats – plain and simple. Remember their mantra: “You never let a serious crisis go to waste.” So, they’re calling for a ban on all conservative talk radio, gags on Fox News, and basically… the euthanizing of any and all elephants on sight… for the public good. But the other side isn’t gonna be outdone in this demogoguery – uh-uh, no-way! Now, there are a ton of them out there making noise on this tragedy; trying to make points. But I’ll note two for my purposes. I’ve met Bill O’Reilly, and he’s a nice enough guy. While he’s just out for the “folks”, he is kind’ve a socialist-leaning dude as far as government protection is concerned. That said, his outlooks are usually more conservative than they are liberal. This guy has advocated that every member of Congress be assigned a personal U.S. Marshall hired specifically for this purpose. That is nuts. For the record: any time that a member of Congress visits a city, all they have to do is request local law enforcement security and voila – they have it. Giffords didn’t do that. Should taxpayers provide bodyguards to all of our representatives? See what I mean? Stupidity pokes its ugly head up beside the Fox news icon. Oh yeah, and I don’t know if you’re aware, but Congress people make really, really good money, too. If they want additional security, then just like O’Reilly, actors and other celebrities… they should hire it. But then, there’s Republican Congressman Peter King. I usually like this guy because he ordinarily uses common sense. That’s sure not true in the case of the Tucson Tragedy, though. King says that nobody should be allowed to carry a gun within 1000 feet of where any member of Congress is located. Hmm. Well, one of the guys that subdued the shooter in Tucson, was a private citizen, and guess what… he was carrying a gun. Yep, and he says he surely would’ve used it on the gunman if he’d had to. Not only that, but this happened in the parking lot of a grocery store, where business was ongoing. So, what if that nut had just driven his car hell-bent into the crowd… would Congressman King now be advocating that all autos are banned for a five mile radius around wherever a member of Congress is located? I think I see that goofy kid named Demagoguery… standing next to his pal the Congressman from New York and holding up two fingers to the back of his head. I’m sorry, but these kinds of things are stupid. And as a dim-witted old traditional American Indian… I do not understood them at all. That’s because it’s a form of demagoguery – plain and simple.
