Tackling The Five Burglar Entry Points In Illinois Home Security Plans

Having the right approach to home security in Illinois means considering the several different threats you are facing and trying to curtail as many as possible. 1. Front and back windows at ground level. The second most popular entry place for burglars is a window easily accessed. There are several methods for protecting windows. One is to improve the locking mechanism on the window itself, increasing the length of screws connected to the wall. For even more protection, add sealants to make them shatter-proof. To make it difficult to get close at all, add a lot of unpleasant shrubbery outside the windows.

2. Your main entrance. Some criminals are lazy and have little, if any, plan when they show up at a house. This fact may explain the reason so many will try force the front door open. As the most popular entry point in robberies, there is a great case to be made for any home security plan to include a strong front door. Deadbolt locks, backed up with hinge-side protection (connected to wall studs) and reinforced with a door bar would be the ideal combination.

3. Back doors. Not far behind the front door and neck-and-neck with low windows, the back door is a very popular entry point for intruders. Picture the situation: out of view of the street, a burglar can quietly and privately work his way inside. While that what’s exactly what home alarm systems are for, if a thief knows what he wants and moves quickly, it may be too late. Make the back door as strong as the front.

4. Garage doors. The appeal of the garage is obvious. It’s not inside the house, it might not have the same protection and there may be tools a burglar could use to get inside the main objective. Of course, your car would certainly be a prize for any thief in Chicago. Power tools and construction materials actually rank high among most stolen items, so never underestimate home security in the garage.

5. The wild card. Beyond the top four, there are many places tied for fifth in Chicago and all across the state of Illinois. Decide what is a major threat around your home. The more thought you put into the process, the better your security will be.
