Take Your Marketing To The Moon With Adwords Basics
Here they are, in no special order. First, start off with a simple themed campaign which you split test and groom to full success, before broadening to the content network and only once you've established a good control ad (one that is performing well to split test your concepts against). How do you do that? Let's get started at the beginning. Google AdWords is actually made up of two networks, really, the search network, which is actually the one we all know and love (go to Google, type in search term, get results), and the content network. The content network is what is driving AdSense. Think of this as the entirety of the internet, indexed by Google. Google will then crawl every piece of the internet, search for websites that are associated with your business, site, or blog, and present your ad on those sites in a column. Don't get started with the content network, start using the search network only. Maintain to keep a close eye on relevance. Make sure that whatever your ads are presenting, that there is a very relevant landing page where the searcher will land when they click through your ad. This is maybe the biggest results killer. Remember, consumers are searching for what interests them, not for sales pitches to entice them that they really wanted red instead of blue. In a nutshell, if the searcher is searching for a red widget, make sure your landing page has a red widget on it. Arrange your campaigns by theme. If your campaigns are generally disorganized, or worse, if you have duplicate keywords inside the same campaign, you are actually fighting with yourself and are headed for a problem. If you have a business the offers maple tree saplings, do thorough analysis on your keywords and structure your campaign, ads, and keywords with synergy. Don't lump in non-relevant keywords as a way to acquire traffic. This strategy will almost always fail you. Do not shy away from negative keywords. If you do not offer a zero cost giveaway, use the word "free" as a negative keyword, as an illustration. This can significantly increase your click through rates, as all the "free stuff" searchers will not even be served your ads. Thus, only people that are NOT looking for free stuff will see your ad in the first place. Yes, this may result in lower traffic numbers (raw traffic), but will in the end result in higher quality scores and click through rates. We have a winner! Finally, study ad copy. Look for ad copy that grabs your attention, and note it, dissect it, chew on it, think about it, use it, etc. Becoming a student of advertising and marketing and constantly improving your skills in that area will serve you well over the long term.
