Taking Action On My Own Personal Growth
I write about this all the time; taking action is growth. But knowing about it and actually doing it are two different things. For instance, I can tell myself all I want that I have to reach out and build relationships in my line of work, but if I don't actually do it then all that knowledge is just thoughts floating around in the air. I don't actually build the needed relationships. So I've decided that when I am confronted with any of the following feelings I'm going to act on it with the appropriate action. Fear If I feel fearful about doing something then it means that there will be a lesson learned from it. I'm not talking about 'I'll probably die if I do that!' kind of fear, but I am talking about the fear of rejection, failing, or otherwise being disappointed in some way. For example the other day I wrote an article for a popular website and submitted it for possible inclusion on their blog. Normally I would have avoided doing this for fear of being rejected, but if I get approved I could possibly receive tons of new visitors to my website because of that one post. Complaints If I start to complain then that will be my cue that something is wrong and needs to be fixed. I can complain all I want but unless I actually take action to make the issue more appealing to me then I will still be complaining tomorrow, and the next day, and possibly a year down the road. Today my complaint was about people parking in our parking spot in front of our house. Instead of complaining about it, which I normally do, I took action and parked our car in front of our house when the spot became vacant. Now I'm neither upset or worried about it anymore! Negativity No longer will I allow myself to dwell in the negative aspect of things. If I start to feel negative about something then I am obviously not doing something right. For instance if I am talking about something that makes me feel negative then I am going to change the subject (or my thoughts) to something more positive. A good example of this is today in the library. I watched as a couple of inconsiderate people talked in loud voices for an hour about their new venture in business. I felt extremely upset that they didn't have the consideration to think about the people in the library would be studying, reading, and working. Normally I can dwell on this type of negative thought for a long time, but once I turned that negative outlook on the situation into something more positive (an understanding of why they were doing it) I felt better about the whole situation. This is my plan! No longer will I hold myself back with fear or stay in a land of negativity, but instead I will make my life the way I want it to be and live in a world of happiness - by taking action.
