Tasks Performed By The National Association Of Attorneys General

The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) was formed in 1907 with a view to providing the best legal services possible to the people of USA. Its main aim was to encourage interaction between Attorneys General from all states and territories of this country. Moreover, NAAG endeavors to assist Attorneys General and their staff members to perform their duties.

NAAG's main focus is to bridge the gap between the Attorneys General's offices and other organizations including outfits of legal firms and law enforcement agencies. National Association of Attorneys General worked thoroughly so as to transcend the frontiers pertaining to a variety of cases. NAAG happens to be currently led by the Indiana Attorney General, Steve Carter. The executive committee comprises of members from all the fifty states, members from District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, US Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.

The office of Attorneys General is an elected position in 43 states, Governor appointment in five states, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands, voted into office by the Legislature in Maine, a Mayoral appointment in the District of Columbia, and appointed by the state supreme court in Tennessee.

The position is one of chief legal officer for the state, commonwealth, or territory. In this office, the Attorneys General deals with a variety of issues in all jurisdictions. Also, this position allows the Attorneys General to work closely with a variety of positions within the state, commonwealth, or territory, as well as neighboring areas. In an effort to promote this activity between Attorneys General, the National Association of Attorneys General encourages interaction between all their members.

The National Association of Attorneys General lends its support as well as encourages the members to continue to pursue educational and training opportunities associated with the position. To further this endeavor the NAAG itself has a provision of providing educational and training opportunities to the staff members and aides. These encompass areas such as litigation skills, leadership and management.

Many individuals are not aware of what the position of Attorneys General entails. For this reason, the NAAG helps to educate the public regarding the position and the individual who holds it. Additionally, the NAAG promotes the importance of this position, especially in the states where the people can elect their state’s or commonwealth’s Attorneys General.

The main office of the National Association of Attorneys General is located on Capitol Hill in the District of Columbia. This location is prime due to its proximity to government officials, Congress, governmental agencies, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
