Tastykakeland, Here We Come!

˙˙˙˙Oh Tastykakes, why are you so delicious? Our inaugural trip with a baby was to none other than Tastykakeland (AKA the East Coast) to visit her Pop Pop (Great Grandfather), Great Aunt and Great Uncles. This was by far the most entertaining car ride I have had thus far. ˙˙˙˙

For starters, what should have been an eight hour drive turned into 12 due to stops for breastfeeding and the fact that my husband swears by the GPS. (No joke. I laugh every time I see the Allstate GPS Mayhem commercial because it reminds me of him.) Yes, thanks to the GPS telling my husband five seconds too late to exit we ended up driving through downtown DC (on K Street) during the evening rush hour (my husband conveniently leaves out the part where I spotted the exit in advance and told him to get over when he tells the story).

Ahh and then the breastfeeding in the parked car in parking lots...those are always good times especially when it is your first time breastfeeding outside of the comfort of your own home. I was just very thankful I remembered my boppy and that our car has tinted windows.

The car ride also set the precedent for future car trips when it comes to diaper changes. I'll give you the play by play. Mom sits in the back and hands the baby to dad in the front who has put down the traveling diaper changing pad on the passenger seat. With the unfolded diaper draped over the gear shift and wipes at the ready on the center console dad works quickly to avoid the car being christened by the baby. Success!

But above all, the most memorable part of the trip was driving through Delaware. "Hi, I'm in Delaware." My husband responds, "What?" My jaw dropped to the floor. I was shocked to learn that the love of my life did not have Wayne's World memorized. The recovery from this shock was surprisingly fast though.

At the end of the day, the trip was well worth it. Of course the best part was seeing family, but I would be remiss if I did not mention the joy of having a Tastykake...and the stockpile of Tastykakes we took back with us.

Are there any other Tastykake lovers out there?
