Employees
• Tata Motors encourage their employees to upgrade their skills and develop multi-skill manpower through our Skill Versatility, Cross Versatility and performance Benefit Scheme, which has been operational for the past 30 years and wherein the employees who have acquired additional skills are given monetary benefits.
Other motivational schemes include
- Employee of the Month/Year award,
- Best Self Directed Team Award,
- Gunawatta Rakshak Award (Quality Stewards) for the bargainable employees.
• Employee empowerment at various levels is ensured through functioning in Self-Directed Teams and Centers of Excellence.
HIV/Aids Awareness – For employees and Society
• TML organizes lectures and distributes information booklets to their employees on the shop floor, along with in-house screening of AIDS awareness films.
• Company makes no discrimination between HIV/AIDS positive employees and other employees right from the employment to the retirement of the employee.
• Company’s medical benefit scheme extends its benefits to employees suffering from HIV/AIDS.
• The company also carries out several community-based interventions to combat the prevalence of HIV/AIDS.
- High-school lectures on AIDS awareness for school students
- Village level group meeting in the villages that fall in the project area (approx. 100 villages)
- Special programme for girl child known as - “I want to bloom”, under this program too AIDS awareness is covered – Till date 5000 girls have been covered under this programme.
• Village Health Workers (VHWs - foot doctors trained by the company) are made aware about the universal precautions to take during dressings and conduction of delivery. They are provided hand gloves, disinfectants and autoclaved dressing and delivery material. The VHWs are also the channel to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS in the community at large
• Employee volunteers organize “AIDS awareness rallies” every year on World’s AIDS Day (December 01) in Pune
• Special programmes for “Truck Drivers” from transporters / suppliers is conducted at Jamshedpur and Pune
Integrated Rural Development Program
The company has adopted several villages around its manufacturing units at Pune, Jamshedpur and Lucknow. Integrated Rural Development aims at meeting basic needs in five broad areas - Health, Education, Water, Environment and Livelihoods.
Enhancing employability at Singur Plant in West Bengal
• The company is establishing the small car plant at Singur in West Bengal. Corporate sustainability at Singur focuses on enhancing the employability of the youth and women in the region through training and skill development. Skills being imparted are attuned to the immediate requirements and future demands that would be generated with the coming of the ancillaries. A glimpse into the activities is given below:
Technical and Vocational Training for Youth Members
• 179 youth members having the minimum qualification of SSC passed were given four months intensive training in technical skills like electrician, fitter, turner and welder at Ram Krishna Shilpa Mandir. 18 other youth members who were ITI passed underwent a reorientation programme for six months at our manufacturing unit at Jamshedpur.
• A total of 346 youth members from the nearby communities are being imparted technical skills in welding, fitting, electrical work, motor mechanics and sheet metal work at various training institutes, including the prestigious ITI, Hooghly, ATI, Dasnagar and Howrah Homes.
• 224 youth members from the affected community are being trained in computers from NIIT and in apparel making from Apparel Training and Design Centre.
Employment Opportunities for Empowering Women
• A women’s co-operative, of 25 members was formed to provide catering facilities to Tata Motors, SP&C and other government agencies
• Another group of 50 women is currently undergoing sewing training
Direct Employment
• Currently 250 community members are engaged as unskilled labor for construction activity of the plant
• The CSR team at Singur is exploring feasibility of engagement of these members on a sustainable basis through service providers
