Tax Relief: Wage Garnishments

“There may be liberty and justice for all, but there is tax relief only for some”. -- Martin A. Sullivan

One of the ways in which the Internal Revenue Service seeks payment of an outstanding tax debt is by taking out a Federal Tax Lien - also known as an IRS Tax Levy. If this action does not get the IRS the results they are looking for, they can and will initiate “wage garnishments”.

Wage garnishments will offer the taxpayer absolutely no tax relief - they are the complete opposite. Wage garnishments could mean that the IRS will demand a large percentage of your wages without ever having taken your living costs into consideration. The garnishments are designed to stay put until the tax debt as calculated by the IRS is paid in full.

Should you happen to be in a situation where the IRS has ordered a wage garnishment against you, you might be forced into a situation where you do not have enough funds available to pay rent, make car payments or even buy groceries. In order to seek tax relief from this predicament, it is important for you to consult with a professional who understands tax law and IRS procedures.

It is very important to understand that IRS collections can sometimes be extreme and are actually an abuse of Congress’ intent for the IRS to refrain from collections that might create economic difficulty. A professional will be able to offer tax relief by securing a temporary freeze on any future wage garnishment collections; and, will fully analyze your particular tax debt situation to come up with a solution that best suits your needs.
