Teacher For Guitar- Passion Equals Inspiration
As simple as this sounds many people end up choosing a teacher for guitar who lives closest to them so that it's more convenient and less time consuming travel wise. Now you may very well live a few blocks from the greatest guitar teachers in the world, and if that's the case, by all means hire him/her! Unfortunately not all guitar teachers are created equal. Someone who taught your friend how to play guitar may not necessarily be the best teacher for you. We all learn differently and most teachers teach differently, so to maximize your chances for success, and less aggrevation, do your homework on guitar teachers and courses. Research Right off the bat you should look in the phone book and make a few calls. Don't be afraid to ask questions, if they really want to be your teacher they'll be more than happy to answer them. Ask about the curriculum, how many years they've played guitar, how many years they've taught the guitar to others and of course, how much will their services cost and what kind of time commitment they may need. Some teachers let you pick which days to have lessons and some only have certain available days. As you ask these questions make sure you really pay attention to your would be teachers tone of voice and how they answer these questions. Does it sound like this person is passionate about the guitar or maybe this is just a job to him (or her)? I don't recommend asking them though. Any teacher, good or bad, will put on a good show to gain another student. Passion Equals Inspiration The point is that when someone really enjoys what they're doing it really is contagious. If your teacher is really into the guitar and enjoys teaching to others you'll get a lot more out of the lessons than if your teacher's only motivation is a pay check. Playing any musical instrument should always be a fun experience, even throughout the tough times. As soon as practice becomes a chore, your likely to associate practice with boredom and aggrevation. This often times leads to folks quitting the guitar. We have all seen teachers who are less than enthusiastic about the subject they teach. Think of a dull history teacher with a no frills style of teaching. This person would likely leave you feeling that they don't care one way or the other if you succeed in learning the material or not. A guitar teacher with this outlook on teaching could literally cripple your guitar playing skills. If your teacher doesn't care, why should you? Negativity is just as contagious as passion. Good Student/Teacher Relationship Learning to play guitar has some rough patches. There will be times when your fingers just can't seem to keep up with the notes you know need to be played in your head. This along with other challenges involved in learning any new skill could easily be more manageable with a knowledgable guitar teacher that wants to see you succeed. Not only for their reputation, but for the fact that this teacher enjoys teaching others and genuinely takes pride in what they have taught you. As an added bonus, when you have a teacher like the one I just mentioned, you want to do well for the teacher if nothing else. Sometimes it's easier to not let others down than it is to keep going simply for your own reasons. When trying to find the best teacher for guitar the easy way isn't always the best way. Do your research and find the person that's the right fit for you. I can't stress enough to find someone who's inspiring and has a real passion for the guitar. The guitar teacher that makes learning more fun and less of a chore is the best guitar teacher for you. 9 times out of 10 the only difference between a good guitarist and someone who got fed up with the whole thing and quit is a good teacher. Go with the guitar teacher that is the best for your lifestyle, your financial situation and learning preferences. Always remember playing the guitar is supposed to be fun. Find someone who inspires you to play the guitar better, not someone who instructs you to.
