Teaching Your Children About Real Life
There have been television programs and videos which are based on just these type things. Using a format similar to the game of Life, they teach children to deal with real life situations and circumstances. The game was fun and goes like this: Every player is required to select a job and a character. Each job is then given a realistic salary. The paychecks will reflect any taxes or insurance deductions and can be given out monthly or bi weekly. These are all choices for each child to make. This is reality and it is very clear to the children. The next step is creating the game board. One trip around the board will represent one pay period. There will be spaces for real life situations, some good some bad. Unexpected expenses such as medical bills or car repairs are included as well as the lottery winning spot. 3. Players are also each given a credit card to use, and they can, but each time around the board the amount doubles if they havent paid that money back, to help them realize how interest works. I really thought this was a great way to give kids a good education about the real world, and a great way for parents to supplement their children's formal education. Kids need to learn these things, and the sooner you start the better. Before you know it they will be grown and knocking on your door for help, so the more they know the better off you both will be.
