Tech Fads Come And Go

New technology is great, yet occasionally it is too new, too ahead of its time and no one comprehends it enough to take advantage of it. That's why you see new things launched and pushed by the manufacturers and it's soon in the discount bins looking for homes at a greatly reduced price. Sometimes there are too many choices and individuals simply do not know which one to pick and so they don’t pick any.

This sort of took place with HD DVD and Blu-ray discs. They were both high definition formats for viewing movies at home, and they were released at about the same time. The only issue was that you had to purchase a new player to use either format and people didn't know which one to pick. They didn’t want to be stuck with another useless piece of equipment like they were when they bought all of those Betamax tapes back in the early eighties.

This apprehension kept a lot of people from choosing one or the other and eventually, Sony built the Blu-ray player into all of their Playstation 3 consoles, there was no doubt that they would support the format. It made HD DVD irrelevant and it left the market and people have a few cool HD DVD’s to play on their machines; but new material was not being released. It happens a lot with new technology; men and women need a reason to believe that this is what is going to be around for a while and to buy into the format.

This is going on with 3D television as we speak. Some people are looking at it and wondering if it's a fad or if it's going to be in the mainstream sooner than later, but some men and women still question whether it is worth it or not. The manufacturers are pushing the technology and there are even a few dedicated 3D channels offered by many cable providers, however men and women question whether it is going to go the way of the HD DVD or if it will take off like HD television did.

Remember, HDTV was deemed as a fad and too expensive and not necessary, but now if you don’t have an HDTV then you're in the minority. People that have upgraded to HDTV can not even remember what television looked like before it was in high definition and can not imagine ever going back to the old way of viewing television.
