Techniques To Form A Finished Gemstone For Human Use
Oiling technique
Gemstones are kept in a colorless oil. The basic purpose of this “Oiling” is to treat the newly cut Gemstone like ”Emerald” with oil so that its cracks become invisible. Normally such cracks are not visible by human eye. So, it is a refinement process of gemstones.
Gemstones are not effected with oils, Instead oils increase its brightness and also its decoration. So, this way the quality of the gemstone is remained.
Bleaching technique
Some gemstones are of organic type, such as ivory, coral, pearls. Bleaching is used to lightens their as it lightens the colors of clothes.
It keeps the gemstone’s mineral in a good condition and also makes it shiny but dim.
Infilling technique
It is a technique used for breaking hollow spaces so that the gemstone remains fixed with regards to its flexibility and precision.
This technique is usually used on emeralds, ruby and tourmaline gemstones.
Dyeing technique
The Dyeing technique is the most commonly used technique on gemstones.
The colors used for dyeing are artificial, but dyeing of certain gems like: Lapis Lazuli, Jade, Turquoise and Coral is less preferred.
The technique of dyeing a gemstone is cheap but effective.
Surface diffusion technique
In this technique the gemstone is given an excessive heat. This technique is usually used on Sapphire.
Also at high temperature, some chemicals are used on the surface of the gemstone to enrich the color of the gemstone.
